Finding yoga

Updated: Sep 22, 2019

I tried yoga many years ago, but didn’t persist long enough for my body to adjust to it. My partner practiced regularly, and encouraged me to give it another go as my work was taking a toll on me both physically and mentally.

So, about two years ago, I started to practice again. This time I ‘found’ yoga and yoga found me! Once I started to attend classes a few times a week, my body and mind really adjusted to the practice. One of the things I’ve learned is that there is no rush in yoga. You go as far as you can comfortably go in each practice, and over time your breathing and focus in poses improves. This gradually has an effect on your strength, balance and flexibility. I still have a long road to travel on my yoga journey.

I’m learning something new about my body every time I practice. This new awareness has brought me a calmness that is changing my approach to life in a very positive way. So, if you’re trying yoga for the first time, be patient and keep going; you’ll soon feel the benefits.
